Our Mission
The Children’s Museum exists to ignite a passion for learning – empowering all children to discover their full potential and expand their view of themselves and the world.
Our Vision
The vision of The Children’s Museum is to be a leader in innovative family activities, a dynamic learning center and a compelling community attraction.
Our History
The Children’s Museum began with one mother’s wish to create a place in Upstate South Carolina where children would be inspired and learn in an informal, hands-on environment. In December 2003, local benefactors donated the former Greenville County Library building and the surrounding land to The Children’s Museum and plans for the Museum began to take shape. With three floors of indoor exhibits, our 79,000 sq foot facility at Heritage Green is one of the largest children’s museums in the United States.

Our Support
The Children’s Museum of the Upstate operates through funding provided from donations, admissions, event fees, enrollment fees and facility rental income. We do not receive any City, County or State funding to cover the $19 per person it takes to operate the Museum. So, for example, with each regular $12 admission, we have to make up $7 in fundraising. For each $8 school group admission, we must raise $11. We offer tickets to at-risk youth through our scholarship program. We welcome support at all levels to cover these costs of operation. Additionally, we are still seeking donations for the remaining $3 million in our capital campaign. If you are interested in making a capital donation, please click here.
